Are you wondering...
Do I need an instrument
at home?
Yes, to make progress it's important to have an instrument at home to practice each day - even 10 to 20 minutes a day can make a significant difference.
For piano, although you should avoid a keyboard, beginners can start on on a digital or second hand piano, and upgrade later as they improve and need a better instrument. Beginner violinists will be fine with a second-hand instrument - We recommend checking first with Hunter Valley Violins for more information.
If you don't have an instrument yet, don't worry, we are happy to help our students find a good instrument to suit their budget - whether it's new or second hand.
Is my child talented enough to learn music?
There's a bit of a misconception about talent - many people see talent as a kind of 'magical' ability. However, skilled tuition and practice are just as important to become a good musician.
Learning music has some incredible benefits, and is important for every child, regardless of their natural ability. Latent talent is in every child, and a big part of a good teacher's job is to discover, nurture and refine every child's 'talent'.
In the words of Phylicia Rashad: 'Before a child talks they sing...Before they write, they draw As soon as they stand, they dance. Art is fundamental to human expression.'
How will learning music benefit my child?
Not only does music enrich life, but research shows that learning music boosts IQ, improves focus and builds perseverance.
A comprehensive longitudinal study, produced by the German Socio-Economic Panel in 2013, found that: "Music improves cognitive and non-cognitive skills more than twice as much as sports, theater or dance." Kids with music lessons "have better cognitive skills and school grades, and are more conscientious, open and ambitious."
In addition to this, classical music even has specific benefits for developing spatial reasoning skills!
Do I really need a qualified music teacher for my child?
If you want to gain good technique and progress, then it's important to have a well trained and experienced teacher. Untrained teachers can unwittingly pass on inferior techniques that inhibit progress.
Training young musicians is like building a house from foundations up. It takes a great deal expertise to plan a good path from beginner to advanced. And simply having grade 7 or 8 just doesn't give you those skills.
Teachers need advanced performance, teaching and music theory skills, as well as belief in their students' abilities.
For great progress, and long term savings, find a teacher who is well trained, experienced and kind!
"Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed. Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue. The potential of every child is unlimited." - Dr Shinichi Suzuki

Our music tuition is crafted around four pillars:
Exploring Creativity:
Children are ready to start piano when they can count to ten & say the alphabet. We use customised programs & purpose built resources to build a love of music & help students enjoy their musical journey.
Reading Music Fluently:
We teach strong sight reading & aural skills through fun activities & engaging repertoire. Holistic development from beginner to advanced builds a strong connection to music.
Technique & Musicality
Music expresses feelings and emotions that words cannot. Our lessons build essential technique, touch, tone, & stylistic interpretation skills to give you the ability to bring your musical ideas to life.
Performing with Confidence:
Our students learn real performance skills, from teachers with professional performance training. Through lively 'Piano Parties' & Studio Concerts we create a fun & supportive environment where every child can shine.
